At The Table in Asheboro, passion for the community and culinary excellence beautifully intertwine. Established in 2013, The Table is a place where people can gather to nourish their souls (and stomachs) with good company and delicious food. “When creating The Table, my heart was to create a space that all those who walked through our doors would feel seen and have a true sense of belonging,” says Dustie Gregson, owner and operator of The Table. Gregson adds, “The beauty of the space, the food, the staff would be an invitation to inspire you, your conversation, your dreams. More than anything, my desire for the table is that everyone would know they have a place, a true belonging within the community.”

The menu at The Table draws inspiration from the seasons. Daily offerings include salads, quiche, sandwiches, and sharable plates. When asked about deciding on the food offered at the restaurant, Gregson said, “I grew up in the late 60s and my parents loved food, gardening, and baking their own bread and granola. Back then, we didn’t have the Food Network. We ate things in season and food represented seasons and time to stop from the business of our day. I brought these childhood memories to The Table.” Everything is made in-house: from the salad dressings to decadent desserts. Dishes range from the familiar (white bean hummus, local burger, pimento cheese sandwich) to more playful (chimichurri cheesesteak, falafel chicken salad, Southern polenta bowl with grits and veggies). A side dish not to be missed is the tomato bisque — it’s the highest honor a tomato can achieve. Well-seasoned and just the right thickness, the tomato bisque is delicious any time of year. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays, and featured items such as the custard french toast and sausage cheddar omelet give brunch the respect it deserves.

Freshly baked bread and pastries are central to The Table’s culinary identity. Loaves of bread are attractively displayed beneath the drink menu (be sure to visit early/mid-morning, as the loaves fly off the shelves quickly). A bevy of pies, croissants, cookies, and cake slices is housed at the counter, inviting diners to stop and take one (or several) items home. Coffee lovers, rejoice: The Table has a whole menu dedicated to coffee. Whether you are craving a cortado, matcha latte, Americano, or cappuccino, The Table has you covered.

Prior to opening The Table, owner Dustie Gregson had no experience working in or running a restaurant. Gregson explained that a deep understanding of servanthood (the art of invitation, preparing good food, and executing quality service) enabled her to turn a budding dream into a flourishing reality. For aspiring restaurateurs, Gregson gifts this advice: “Find a mentor, a consultant that knows way more than you do and allow them to help teach and guide you into creating your vision. Stay true to the heart of your vision, your business plan, but also give space to learn from someone who knows better than you.”

The interior is airy and inviting: large paned windows allow sunlight to stream through, and the white and wood furnishings evoke a crisp atmosphere. A large chandelier comprised of several glass milk bottles catches prisms of light, scattering rainbows around the room. Several tables, circular and elongated, are spread out throughout the dining room, in addition to umbrella-covered outdoor seating. The irresistible charm of the space beautifully echoes The Table’s mission statement:

“Welcome to your seat at The Table. May you be met with belonging, marked with inspiration and found in community.”
