I’m a huge fan of pie artists (check out @thepieous and @inspiredtotaste) and their edible works of art. I often get lost looking through their Instagram feeds, marveling at their vibrant, doughy canvases. Since I’m not on the level of master baker yet, I wanted to share a delicious dessert recipe that you can whip up in less than 45 minutes.

This recipe belonged to my great-aunt Mary. Unlike her sister (my grandmother), she didn’t love to bake. However, this pie can be put together in a jiffy and doesn’t require much technique :) This pie tastes like the holidays but is delicious year-round. You can make your own pie dough from scratch or use a frozen pie shell (regular, not deep dish).

Aunt Mary’s Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 9” unbaked pie shell
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Mix all of the ingredients together and pour into the unbaked pie shell. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
