Oh, the magic of that first fry feeling: sneaking one (or three) fries as soon as you get your meal is an unofficial tradition. Shoestring or crinkle, waffle or curly, there’s room for all sizes and flavors in the world of fries. Read on to discover some of the most perfectly prepped potatoes in Greensboro.

Bandito Bodega

Do you ever wish that your bag of fries was like the inside of Mary Poppins’ magical carpetbag? At Bandito Bodega, this dream is a reality. The shoestring fries are uniquely seasoned with furikake (a dry topping comprised of seaweed, dried fish, and sesame seeds) and served with gochujang (red chili paste) ketchup, a nod to the restaurant’s Asian culinary influence. And when you think you’ve eaten them all, there are always more fries at the bottom of the paper bag.

Even though french fries aren’t *actually* French, you could convince us otherwise after tasting the truffle fries at PWB. Thinly sliced and piled high, these fries are nearly a meal all their own. Served piping hot, the fries are sprinkled with fresh herbs de Provence and saffron rouille — a creamy yolk-based sauce.

Melt Kitchen & Bar

Simply put, the fries at Melt are addictive. They rival the Brussels sprouts as the standout side dish here, but really, you can’t go wrong with either. Duck fat is the frying liquid of choice here, and it imparts a gamey, unctuous flavor to whatever it touches.

SouthEnd Brewing Co.

In many bars, food isn’t given much thought. Nothing could be further from the truth than at SouthEnd Brewing Co., where the food options are nearly as extensive as the drink list. Choose from the “OG” beer-battered, rosemary Parmesan, or sweet potato waffle fries. If you want to take things up a notch, share a plate of loaded fries, complete with beer cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, and green onion.
